Meditation is settling into Self. It is the art of Being. It is the natural state.
People have lot of ideas of techniques of meditation. Meditation (Dhyan) in reality is doing absolutely nothing. Not doing any action – physical or mental. That is called meditation. It is similar to falling asleep. In deep sleep, there are no thoughts and no awareness. On the other hand, in meditation, there are no thoughts but full awareness. The bliss of Self is experienced consciously in state of meditation.
There may be several techniques to reach this stage of non doing. These techniques fall into the category of doing/practicing. The objective of any technique of meditation is to make the mind peaceful/tranquil, reduce mental impressions and prepare the ground for meditation.
As long as doing is there, there is meditator. When the meditator drops, doing drops, meditation happens.
The statement that “I am meditating” indicates that meditation has not happened. Meditation is a happening – not doing. It happens when you let go everything.
Meditation is not a doing at all. It is simply Being.
